Architecture is about creating spaces that connect people with their surroundings. At Alki Design, we draw immense inspiration from the natural world—the landscapes, textures, and emotions that shape our vision. Our new print collection embodies this connection. Each print serves as a reflection of our journey in capturing the raw beauty of nature and translating it into visual form. It’s an opportunity for you to bring a piece of that inspiration into your own space, allowing the art to spark a deeper connection between you and the world outside.
Our creative process begins with a vintage tool: a 1964 Pentax Spotmatic, a film camera passed down through generations. This analogue camera, now refurbished and loaded with fresh 35mm film, has become the heart of this collection. The photos it captures are more than just images—they are moments in time, frozen through the lens of a tool with a rich history.
There’s something magical about film. Unlike the instantaneous nature ofdigital photography, each shot requires intention, care, and patience. Filmoffers an authentic texture and warmth that’s difficult to replicate, allowingthe landscapes we capture to feel timeless and grounded. The grain of the film, the richness of color, and the tactile quality of the final image allcontribute to the unique character of each print.
Once the film is developed, the creative journey doesn’t stop there. The raw beauty of the captured landscapes is just the beginning. We then take these analogue photographs and transform them by layering them with digital linework. This step represents the intersection between nature and human creativity, between the organic and the structured.
"the intersection between nature and human creativity"
The linework reflects our architectural vision—precise, intentional, and inspired by the forms found in both natural landscapes and the built environment. It’s a way of adding a human touch, showing how we engage with the world as designers and creators. The interplay between the analogue warmth of film and the sleek precision of digital design results in prints that are as much about process as they are about the final product.
The creative process behind these prints mirrors the balance we strive for in our architectural work—a harmony between the digital and natural worlds. Every element is thoughtfully composed, from the moment the camera’s shutter clicks to the final line drawn on the digital canvas.
Our process begins in the landscape, where we seek out scenes that move us, scenes that speak to the story we want to tell. The film camera is our tool for capturing these moments, embedding them with the texture of time and place. After the images are developed, we bring them into the digital realm, carefully overlaying them with linework that reflects the architectural language we work with daily.
Through this process, we aim to communicate the duality of our world—the organic rhythms of nature and the precision of human-made structures. The end result is a collection that captures the emotion and spirit of the earth, while lso celebrating the dialogue between the human digital world and the natural world around us.
This collection is more than just art for your walls—it’s a piece of the Alki Design philosophy, a visual expression of the stories that shape our architectural designs. Whether you’re drawn to the analogue nostalgia of film, the clean precision of digital line work, or the way the two interact, these prints offer a unique way to bring the world of Alki Design into your home.
We’re excited to share this journey with you, and we can’t wait for you to experience the collection for yourself. Keep an eye out for the official launch, where these art prints will be available for purchase on our website. Each piece is a reminder of the connections we build through our spaces, and of the landscapes that inspire us every day.
