About the project

Devold, a pioneer in sustainable merino clothing, resonated with Alki Design’s architectural ethos when renovating their flagship store in downtown Wanaka, New Zealand.

Our shared commitment to high performance and environmental responsibility guides the design, focusing on natural stone and venetian plaster to echo Devold's dedication to raw materials and longevity. The muted earthy palette provides a serene backdrop for Devold's soft woollen clothing, and the open plan optimise the customer experience – to dilute all senses to heighten the sense of touch through succinct materiality.

Transparency and sustainability are integral to the design, with features showcasing Devold's eco-friendly practices and the journey of wool from New Zealand farms to finished garments. Comfort zones invite customers to linger, fostering deeper connections with the brand.Through this renovation, we redefine retail by harmonising tradition, sustainability, and innovation, setting a new standard for ethical fashion and environmental stewardship.
